Work Record 1

Work Record 1

For this shoot I went to a local public garden and took pictures of the flowers. I tired to take some up close to show a lot of detail from the texture on the petals.

Research Artist
Imogen Cunningham

For this shoot, I have taken inspiration from Imogen Cunningham on how she takes photos look delicate and up close.

I like this photo because the petals almost seem like tissue paper, making it seem very delicate and fragile. This could represent how life is delicate and fragile and can easily break apart. I like how she has slightly positioned the flower to make it seem like as if the flower is blooming into the photo. Also, the background is completely black which creates a strong contrast to to the flower. The flower has a lot of tone making it seem more alluring by having a smooth transition from the darker to the lighter tones.

I like this photo because the flower is slightly off to one side and circles into the frame. Also, the pink contrasts the green in the background to make the photo seem more alluring. The background has been slightly dropped out of focus making the flower stand out even further. The tone of the flower adds additional interest because the highlights adds more focus and then smoothly transitions into the darker tones.

I like how the flowers create a triangular shape and fills up the frame. Also, I like how the colour of the background is very dull and creates an interesting contrast with the bright bold colours on the petals. I like how the flowers go around the frame and balances it out from the darker full background.

I like this photo because the colour of the flower was slightly more softer compared to the other flowers. I like how the flower looks like it's entering the frame and fills the sides. Also, I like how there is a flower in the background the with same colour to help balance out the photo a bit more.

I like this photo because it is a completely different colour compared to most of the flowers which were already there. Also, I like how the flower has different shades of yellow creating an interesting type of tone. The petals seem darker with a deep yellow and goes to a lighter shade towards the edges.

I like this photo because there is no distractions from the background and the main focus is the the centre on the flower. Also, I like how the petals create a spiral pattern going from the centre of the flower to the edges making the eye travel through the whole image.

I liked this shoot because I was able to focus on my camera positioning go where I wanted the flower to rest in the frame. Also, I would be able to experiment on creating a reflection affect later in photoshop to demonstrate that I am experimenting with different ways on how to create reflection.

Worst Images

I don't like this photo because it is slightly over exposed and the background looks too chaotic and busy making the image to look less flattering. Also the camera is very zoomed out, therefore, you're not able to see that much detail on the petals to make the photo have more depth to it.

I don't like this photo because, once again, it is slightly over exposed and the camera is not close enough. There are limited petals and detail on the flower to help fill the frame slightly more. To help make this flower look better, I should of taken the picture close up so you the flower can fill the frame more and see more detail and create a more broken or unfinished appearance in the photo by some of the petals being missing.

I don't like this photo because the background looks very chaotic due to not having the correct settings to help the background seem darker. Also, I am not close enough to the flower to make it seem more alluring because you can not see the flower's features that well.

I don't like this shoot because my photos seem boring because I have taken photos like this before and so has many other photographers. Also, I did not have to correct lens with me, therefore, I was not able to get close up pictures of flowers which were a bit far away from me.
AO1 - For my own independent shoots, I have decided to study and use Imogen Cunningham’s and Vivian Maier’s photos. This shoot links to Cunningham’s work because I have positioned the flower in the frame in a similar way to what she does and created a slight fragile affect. My edited photos links to Maier’s work by creating reflection, however, I didn’t do it in a similar way to she does because I created this affect in photoshop instead of a window or a mirror.

AO2 - For this shoot, I used my 600D and normal lens. I set my settings to ISO 200 and shutter speed 1/125, however I kept manipulating my f stop due to keep walking and taking pictures in and out of shade.

AO3 - My idea for creating reflection in this shoot was to take photos without creating an effect in person but to later create it in photoshop. I wanted to experiment with different settings in photoshop to create an interesting reflected image.

AO4 - My intensions for my photos was to create and alluring affect by having the same photo reflected in different ways, creating a circular shape going outwards to the edge of the frame. Also, when I was taking photos my intensions was to create a similar fragile, delicate appearance like in Cunningham’s work.

To create all of my final images I used these settings in canvas size and kept changing the anchor depending on where the flower was positioned in the frame.

For each photo after making the canvas size I copied the image three times so it filled the whole canvas and rotated them. I rotated them either horizontal, vertical or 180° depending on the position.

For this yellow flower photo, I cropped it slightly so the flower would be on the edge so it would work better when it came to making the reflections.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is curves.jpg

For the pink flower that fills the whole frame I didn’t like how the exposure of the photo so I used curves to help fix it slightly and bring out more of the colour and tones.

This links to my artist because I have taken photos of the flower up close and slightly off centre. Also, I have tried bringing out the tone a bit more like Imogen Cunningham has in her photos.

I like how my final photos came out because I have managed to experiment in photoshop and create a reflected affect. Also, I like how it creates and interesting affect in the middle and just circles out towards the edge of the canvas.
